Tasks
Identify first pieces to go up - I believe the trailer (The Frankenstein Poetry of Sorauren, Introduction (needs work) & Training Manual pt. 1. Get those ironed out and ready. Any of the other stray lines, let it go.
For Introduction, you might want to really strip it down. Even though it works. Think on it for a bit.
Secondary, you need to put in placements - have the page structures ready so you can go in, and fill the blanks - that means images, audio tracks in place as substitutes (so you see how it looks before you add the real thing)
Record, upload and there you go for content (it’s not as complex of a thing) I think whatever sound you end up incorporating, you can be sparse - for the Frankenstein, hit the jazz WAY in the back. Find the obscure track that works.
In terms of the excerpts, don’t post up the entire stanzas (a quote is more than enough) It’s the literary hook to go with the audio. Remember, low-fi - treat it as such.
THIS HAS TO BE RECORDED AND READY TO GO FRIDAY OVERNIGHT. YOU MUST BE DOING THE OUTREACH BY SATURDAY DAY.
Why did you want this job? (& what do you hope to do with it?)
I think it’s important to know what goals you have & what programs or events you’d like to start. My role is to be more in service to the wishes of you & the organization.
There will be individuals we’ll be speaking with who are not necessarily politically aligned with who we are & what we want to do. Major funding exists out there where you won’t have to engage with anyone who isn’t
Buy tickets - money to do that to give away in a circular. Start with Toronto. So it’s a program to have dancers engage within the community - it’s a way of building.
Wandering talks - pairing two artists from a specific neighbourhood - in conversation - map out a route in the neighbourhood - talk about artistic practice - relationship to their neighbourhood - either where they live, or where they work. In that conversation - small group within public going on this walk with them. Creating something during that week (do they present?)
Library talks - go into different libraries - can include downtown core or outside - 3-4 dance artists from different forms - maybe centered on one form - open to public - talking about practice - conversations around that practice - what’s the approach to costuming - music - specific - open to the public - facilitated by someone who hosts - keeps the conversation going - library is best - meeting place - accessible.
Six artists - spend a year together - not with each other every day - don’t have the space for that - Asian diaspora artists in the Toronto context (dancers here have many other jobs/professions - they are doctors/nurses - they carve out time for their dance (are they a little older?) Or street dance - not the traditional path - a year together but not that much time together - but 3 weeks in person, in between time is virtual - six artists from different forms/practices/cultures. Each one would lead one of those wandering talks that we talked about before - there would be time to be together to share their different forms in those 3 weeks. Try to create something together.
In the virtual time - it’s where there are offerings - poetry, music, offerings - facilitates dialogue around them.
New partnership now with TDT - it wasn’t part of the original programming. Trying to find money -TDT offering space to use - https://tdt.org/events/entrywaves/ - Angie’s figuring out the budget - it starts in Fall/Winter 2024. 4-5 hours available per day in that week.
Restricted funds - allocated funds - do we unfreeze for fundraising or for the programs they’re running - or for operations funds in general.
